Grandma's Visit

My mom is visiting us at the moment, which means lots of attention for Aimy. We've been having a great time this past week. It's going to be hard when she goes home!
Playtime with Grandma!
Awww.
More books to read when I'm bigger!
Grandma visiting also means more time for Mommy to do chores! You would think I would complain about the chores part, but being able to get things done that have been on that 'To Do' list for a while feels great. We've also done lots of walks and a visit to a local castle. Stay tuned for photos of that trip.
A new Mommy-Baby picture! What a nice smile.
New favourite game: use the pillow to go upside down.
Too fun!

Like Mother, Like Daughter

I sat Aimy on the couch beside me the other day and gave her a bunch of toys. To my surprise (though, knowing that I'm her mom, I probably shouldn't be), she immediately went for an object always dear to my heart.

What's this I see?
Aimy's got a book!
And she can turn the pages on her own!
Wow, isn't this fun!
Too bad I can't actually read this stuff.
And it's not a fluke: later that day I put her  in her new inflatable chair and she did it again!

Now when we do storytime before bed, she turns the pages. Seems we've got another bookworm in the family!

The Many Faces of Aimy

Some recent photos.
Want to see my teeth?
More teeth!
Am I not supposed to be chewing on my finger?
It's time for a walk!
I admit it, I am trying to escape from my mat. But you still think I'm cute!
Look, Mom! I can balance my leggings on my head!
What?!
Are you happy I'm sitting up?
Yay, you're happy!
Goof.
It's Daddy!
First ever piggy back ride!
I think I like it!

Bike Trailer Fun

On the first of August, a package was delivered to our door. We had been excited about it for a while and were very happy when it finally came.

It took a bit of assembly...
Starting to unfold...
Unfolded and handlebar in place (it can also be converted into a jogging stroller)
Setting up the wheels
Almost finished!
But in the end we had a wonderful bike trailer for Aimy!

Smiles already!
We've put it to good use a few times... and she seems to like it!

Cooing and making noises for the first 20 minutes, then fast asleep...
And asleep again on the way back.
I think it's safe to say that the bike trailer is a success!

First Time Away From Baby

My mid-August trip to visit friends was my first time away from Aimy for more than a few hours since she was born. It went extremely well though, both on my end and at home. Carlos had a visit from his brother and then our very good friends came for a 2-day stay, so he had lots of support while I was gone, and he was very good about sending me messages and phoning to keep me updated. The whole experience almost made me want to go away again... but maybe not for a little while. :)

I saw some very cool sights while I was away, though, and had a great time with my friends.

In front of city hall at the Grande Place in Brussels

The ground was covered in a 'flower carpet'!
City hall and some of the cool old buildings.

City hall facade.

King's House (but no king has ever lived there!)

Tintin!
Mannekin Pis - the peeing boy
One of the symbols of the city. Thought to represent  the son of a duke who  was discovered pissing behind a tree during a particularly bloody battle...
Godiva chocolates! Typical Flemish building.
Musical Instruments Museum

Where the Belgian King lives!

Got there 5 minutes too late to visit... oh well, next time! I'll go see the Atomium then too.
Golden mosaic at the basilica in Charleroi. Unique in Belgium
It tells the story of the Apocalypse as told by Saint John.

Very cool Belgian/Art Nouveau architecture
Me and Annelien, my Belgian friend!
