Walk in the Woods

Looking from the top of a dune towards the marsh between the north and south lakes
On Saturday we decided to take out our trusty map of the local walking paths and try one of the circuits we haven't done yet. Now that we have our baby backpack (our combined Mother's Day and Father's Day present!) we thought it was about time we get out and use it.

Baby in the backpack!
How can you tell she likes it? She's chewing on the chin rest!
We decided to go with one of the shorter paths (8km and medium difficulty) to start off with since it was our first trip with the pack. Though it was quite sandy and therefore a bit difficult on some of the climbs, it was a nice circuit. We started by the north lake and walked through the dunes to the Bay of Ispe and back to the canal along the bike path that connects Biscarrosse and Biscarrosse Plage.

Typical path conditions. Pretty sandy and somewhat shady, with a few big hills.
Resin-collector's cabin. They used to collect the pine resin in earthen pots and store them here.
A close-up of the signs used to mark the paths in the area: either a white and red line or a green sign with white markings
Aimy enjoyed her new perch so much that she fell asleep for half of our trek. I can't quite adjust the harness tight enough to have her stay sitting up so she slid to the side when she was sleeping, but it won't be long before it fits her well. I think we'll be trying many more of the paths in the area in the future!
Fast asleep!
The hat's too big but it keeps that bald spot from getting sunburnt!

Growing and Growing

Aimy had a check-up last week and has grown 4cm in a month! She's outgrown almost all of her pants, but her shirts are fine for the most part, and she's on the 6-month onesies ahead of schedule.
Happy baby
Yes, you are loved.
The weather has been wacky since Greg left but we've still managed to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine when it decides to make an appearance. Temperature changes don't seem to bother Aimy at all, and she is just as comfortable wearing only a diaper in 30 degree weather as being bundled up to go out for a walk in windy 17 degrees.
Admiring Mommy's Mother's Day plant
Aimy has also been impressing us with all the new things she is able to do. She can now roll from back to tummy and back again; stand while holding herself up using the coffee table as support; pass a toy from hand to hand; stretch to grab an object; and wiggle forward on her stomach. And though she still seems to hate drinking from a bottle, she is happy to try her sippy cup or my water bottle.
Standing!

My water bottle!
What are you looking at,  Mom?
Carlos is almost done with school so soon we should be able to take advantage of this nicer weather and get out and enjoy summer!

Out And About

On the day Greg arrived, we walked to the southern lake and managed to catch part of the Patrouille de France's second show on the way.

The weather was pretty awful for the first part of Greg's visit but it picked up halfway through his stay. Wednesday we decided to head to the Plage for a nice walk on the sand.

Big eyes!

Cool dudette
And by the last day of Greg's visit it was hot enough to merit our first dip in the lake of the season (not bad for the 25th of May!) Since the heat was pretty impressive, we decided to see how Aimy felt about putting her feet in the water.
Quite a few people!
Not sure whether she is asking for me to pick her up or trying to grab the camera!
First time wading!
What is this stuff?
Thanks for the shade, Uncle Greg!

Time for beer.

It's much cooler out here with just my diaper on!
